Hitchhiker’s guide to the blogosphere

Join Paxton Allewell for a multi-media journey through the exciting universe of blogs. This unique presentation will introduce you to 20 of the most extraordinary and interesting blogs around today. You’ll discover blogs about business, celebrities and travel, and blogs that have become books and TV shows. Along this guided voyage you will go behind the scenes to learn the stories of the people who run the blogs; you’ll find out what makes a top blog and you’ll (hopefully) discover a few blogs that you’ll want to follow. Who knows, you might even want to start your own blog! Topics such as social media and online trends will also be touched upon in this seminar.

Interested in having your own corner of the Internet? If so, then this course is for you. Blogs are a fantastic way to share your ideas, experiences and talents. This hands-on class will give you the tools and tips you need to make your mark in the blogosphere. You’ll learn how to set up your own blog by securing a unique web domain, creating new content, building an audience and much more.

Niagara has a very distinctive character that includes unique agricultural lands, older urban areas, the Niagara Escarpment and one of the largest tourist attractions in the world—Niagara Falls. Our region, like many Ontario communities, is currently going through a major transition. In this public conversation we will explore the qualities that make a great community and discuss what each of our hopes are for Niagara ten years from now.

Paxton will kick-start the conversation by discussing and explaining the Niagara Original brand.

Are you a small business owner or someone who wants to share your talent and passion with the world? This course will walk you through setting up your own website and/or blog; including registering a domain name. You’ll learn how to use WordPress – a widely respected content management system – to build and maintain your new site as well as strategies for search engine optimization. This course will help you to show off your creativity or expand your business into the 21st century. Domain and hosting fees an additional $20. No previous design or coding skills required.
